Differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes:
Prokaryotes
1. Size of cell is 1-2muem by 1-4mue m or less
2. Mostly unicellular(some cyanobacteria may be multicellular).
3. True nucleus is absent. Nucleus lack nuclear membrane and nucleolus. Such nucleus is called nucleoid.
4. Usually single circular without histones.
5. Expressed in groups called operons.
6. Merozygotic (partially diploid).
7. Binary fission of budding
8. No meiosis. Transfer of DNA only.
Eukaryotes
1. Greater than 5 muem in diameter.
2. Mostly multicellular.
3. Nuclear membrane and nucleolus are present.
4. Multiple linear with histones.
5. Expressed individually.
6. Diploid.
7. Involves mitosis.
8. Involves meiosis.
