When Aluminium is heated with Fe2O3 it is reduced to iron and a lot of heat is produced which melts the iron. 

The molten iron fills the space between the railway tracks and joins them. 

This reaction is called as Thermit reaction. 

The chemical equation for this process is Fe2O3 +2Al----------2Fe+Al2O3+ heat.
