A shady Plot by Elsie Brown is a story about the writer who writes stories about ghost and is assisted by a ghost, Helen. Helen, who was a ghost, was the member of "Writer's Inspiration Bureau" she helped who were unable to gather idea to write ghost stories. But by the use of an Ouija board, the ghosts are annoyed by the people and threatens to go on strike until people won't stop. With this message, Helen comes to the writer, whereas, writer's wife had already got one Ouija board. Hence, the wife drags the writer to participate in the Ouija board party. Since the game is disturbed by  Helen, the game doesn't reach the conclusion. John is suspected to be having an affair with Helen, therefore Lavinia becomes angry and threatens to leave him. As a result being afraid of an Ouija board, the cook threatens to resign the job. As they get rid of ouija board everyone stays happily and back to normal life. Finally, it is decided that Lavinia won't use Ouija board and the ghosts leave them forever.
