Here too we use equation of motion
v^2 = u^2 + 2as
2as = v^2 - u^2
2 x a x (6/100) = 0 - (100)^2
12a / 100 = - 10000
a = -1000000 / 12 m/s^2
This is the average retardation of the bullet
Avg force F = m a
= (5/1000) x 1000000 / 12 = 416.66 N
approx 417 newton

Given:

Mass of bullet, m = 5 g = 0.005 kg

Initial velocity of bullet, u = 100 m/s

Distance penetrated by bullet, s = 6 cm = 0.06 m

We can use the formula for work done by an external force, W = F × s, to find the average force exerted by the bullet on the wooden block.

Work done by bullet on the block:

W = 0.5 × m × u^2

W = 0.5 × 0.005 × (100)^2

W = 250 J

The negative of this work done is the work done by the block on the bullet, which is the force acting on the bullet in the opposite direction.

Force exerted by block on bullet:

F = -W/s

F = -250/0.06

F = -4166.67 N

Since the force is negative, we take the magnitude to get the average force exerted by the bullet on the block.

Average force exerted by bullet on block:

F = 4166.67 N ≈ 417 N

Therefore, the correct option is (B) 417 N.

K.E = F × displacement 1/2m v^2 = F× d 1/2 × 5 ×
10 ^-3 ×10^4 = F × 6 × 10^-2 solving this we get F = 417.
