**1. Emotional Attachment:**
The term "dear" implies a sense of affection, love, or significance. In the context of the story, the title suggests that the departed person holds a special place in the hearts of the characters. **3. Irony and Satire:**
The use of the term "dear" in conjunction with "departed" introduces an element of irony and satire. It suggests that the departed person might not have been as dear or beloved as initially thought. **4. Reflection on Mortality:**
By using the term "departed," the title prompts readers to contemplate the transient nature of human life. It serves as a reminder of the inevitable journey towards death that everyone will eventually undertake. The title sets the stage for a contemplation of mortality and the impact it has on the living.

**5. Symbolic Meaning:**
"The Dear Departed" can also be interpreted symbolically, representing departures other than physical death. It may allude to the departure of relationships, trust, or innocence. The title suggests that the story will explore the repercussions of these departures and examine how they shape the lives of the characters.

In conclusion, the title "The Dear Departed" justifies itself by capturing the emotional attachment, departure from life, irony, reflection on mortality, and symbolic meaning present within the story. The title 'The dear departed ' literally means that the person who is dead is much loved by the family members and hence the person is being called the dear departed , but actually in the drama we see the underline irony of this title. Able Merryweather lies down because he feels dazed and Amelia does not even bother to call a doctor to confirm this. Only matter in her mind is pinching his possession before Elizabeth arrives and outshining her by wearing mourning dress. When Elizabeth does arrive instead of going to see her father she prefers to have tea. The two sisters quarrels over his possession. Finally Able realises that he is not at all 'dear' to them and since he is not a departed soul and he decides to 'depart' from their lives.
