The three types of US hegemony are:
(i) Hegemony as hard power-The bed rock of contemporary US power lies in the overwhelming superiority of its military power. The US today has military capabilities that can reach any point on the planet accurately, lethally and in real time. The US today spends more on its military capability than next 12 powers combined. As the Iraq invansion shows, the American capacity to conquer is formidable.

(ii) Hegemony as structural power-Hegemony in this sense is reflected in the role played by the US in providing global public goods. The best examples of a global public goods are sea lanes of communication (SLOC) and Internet. The US share of the world economy remains an enormous
28 per cent. A classic Example of the structural power of the US is the academic degree called the master’s in Business Administration(MBA) .

(iii) Hegemony as Soft Power-This third sense of hegemony is about the capacity to ‘manufacture Consent’. America is the most seductive, and in this sense the powerful, culture on earth. This attribute is called ‘soft power’: the ability to persuade rather than coerce.

Different Types of Hegemony:

1. Cultural Hegemony:
Cultural hegemony refers to the dominance of a particular culture over others, where the dominant culture's beliefs, values, and norms are considered superior and widely accepted. This type of hegemony is maintained through the control of media, education, and other cultural institutions. For example, the United States has cultural hegemony through the global influence of Hollywood movies, American music, and English language.

2. Economic Hegemony:
Economic hegemony occurs when a particular country or group of countries holds significant economic power and influences global trade and finance. This dominance is often achieved through control over key resources, production, and financial institutions. The United States and China are examples of countries with economic hegemony due to their large economies and global trade influence.

3. Political Hegemony:
Political hegemony refers to the dominance of a particular political ideology or system over others. It involves the control of political institutions, policies, and decision-making processes. For instance, during the Cold War, the Soviet Union had political hegemony over Eastern European countries through its communist ideology and control over their governments.

4. Military Hegemony:
Military hegemony occurs when a country possesses superior military capabilities and exercises influence or control over other countries. The possession of advanced weaponry, military alliances, and the ability to project power globally contribute to military hegemony. The United States is an example of a country with military hegemony due to its extensive military presence and power projection capabilities worldwide.

5. Informational Hegemony:
Informational hegemony refers to the dominance over the production, distribution, and dissemination of information and knowledge. It involves controlling media outlets, communication networks, and information technologies. For example, social media platforms like Facebook and Google hold informational hegemony as they control the flow of information and influence public opinion.

Overall, hegemony can manifest in various forms, including cultural, economic, political, military, and informational. These types of hegemony often intersect and reinforce each other, shaping global power dynamics and influencing international relations.
