When Iraq invaded Kuwait US tried to convince Iraq to quit it's aggression but when US saw that Iraq was not ready to do  this,it mandated the liberation of Kuwait by force. A massive coalition force of 60,000 troops from 34 countries fought against Iraq and therefore defeated it this is what came to be called as first gulf war.
