Some Examples on Conjunction

1. One of the busiest cities of India is Kolkata, one another is Mumbai and the other is Delhi. — wrong

One of the busiest cities of India is Kolkata, another is Mumbai and the other is Delhi.  — correct

Here we change 'one another' into 'another' because, the structure of such expression is - one - other - other.

2. Cricket has become so popular a game that even young boys are talking about.  — wrong

Cricket has become so popular as a game that even young boys are talking about it. — correct

Here, we change 'so popular a game' into 'so popular as a game' because, 'so' or 'as' is followed by 'as'.

As,
She is so good as Sita.
Ram is as good as Mohan.

3. I do not know that she is going to meet Mohan because, I have not consulted her since yesterday. — wrong

I do not know whether she is going to meet Mohan because, I have not consulted her since yesterday. — correct

We replace 'that' by 'whether' because, unknown as suspected expression takes 'whether' instead of that, who, which, etc.

As,
I do not know that he is ill. — wrong
I do not know whether he is ill. — correct

4. Nothing can be predicted for cricket that this team is going to win the match. — wrong

Nothing can be predicted for cricket but this team is going to win the match. — correct

We replace 'that' by 'but' because 'nothing' is followed by 'but'.

As,
Nothing that a tree is there. — wrong
Nothing but a tree is there. — correct

5. Such boys of our class will be rewarded by the principal that have obtained good marks. — wrong

Such boys of our class will be rewarded by the principal as have obtained good marks. — correct

We use 'as' at the place of 'that' because, 'such' is followed by 'as' if noun comes after it.

As,
Such girls are there who are beautiful. — wrong
Such girls are there as are beautiful.  — correct

6. Hardly Mohan had gone to Kolkata when his mother came and was asking about him. — wrong

Hardly has Mohan had gone to Kolkata when his mother came and was asking about him. — correct

We use 'Hardly had Mohan' at the place of 'Hardly Mohan had' because, helping verb is used first after hardly, scarcely, barely, etc.

As,
Scarcely she had gone when I reached. — wrong
Scarcely had she gone when I reached.  — correct

7. The accused persons were found guilty so that they were punished by the magistrate.  — wrong

The accused persons were found guilty therefore, they were punished by the magistrate. — correct

We change 'so that' into 'therefore' because, for fixed result we use 'therefore'  instead of 'so' and 'so that'.

As,
He was guilty so that he was punished.  — wrong
He was guilty therefore, he was punished.  — correct
