Material Required

  • Paper (scrapbooking paper is ideal). You can start with an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet which will be cut into a square.
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon, string, cording, etc.
  • A stick (optional)

Direction to be followed

  • You will need a square piece of paper to work with. If your paper is rectangular, you can easily cut it square by folding one corner to the bottom, opening it up again, and then trimming off the excess.

  • Voila, a square! 
  • Then, cut your square in half, into two equal pieces. 
  • Fore Wings (Upper Wings):
    • Take one of the new rectangular pieces of paper and fold it in half, lengthwise. Then, open the paper and fold the outer corners into the fold line to create points.

    • Cut on the triangular fold lines.
    • Your paper should now look like this.
    • Next. accordion fold (over and under) your pointed end piece of paper.
    • And fold it in half. This will be the set of fore wings.

  • Hind Wings (Lower Wings):
    • Take the second piece of rectangular paper.
    • And accordion fold it (folding over and under).
    • Fold in half. These are the hind (back) wings.
    • You should now have two sets of wings.
    • Tie the wings together with a ribbon, leaving excess for the antennae.
