World 2020 (SOFI 2020)
• Jointly prepared by the FAO, IFAD, UNICEF,
WFP and WHO.
• Presents the most recent estimates of the
extent of hunger, food insecurity and
malnutrition around the world.
• Provides information on progress towards SDG
goal-2.
• Discusses the progress towards Hunger and
Food Insecurity Targets, and progress towards
Global Nutrition Targets.
Indicator - Prevalence of Undernourishment (PoU)
• PoU - an estimate of the percentage of
individuals in the total population that are in a
condition of undernourishment.
• Findings:
? Decades-long decline in hunger in the world,
had ended - number of people affected by
hunger in the world continues to increase
slowly.
? Almost 690 million people in the world (8.9%),
are estimated to have been undernourished in
2019.
? This trend reveals that the world is not on
track to achieve the SDG 2.1 target by 2030.

situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and

using data collected with the Food Insecurity
