Types of Broiler Rations

Broilers are typically fed with two main types of rations:

• Broiler starter: Given up to five weeks of age.
• Broiler finisher: Can be continued until the marketing age.

• Broiler ration contains around 23 to 24 percent protein with a Cal (M.E.) protein ratio of approximately 130.
• It is challenging to achieve such high energy levels in practical rations without adding fat or oil as an energy source.
• In broiler finisher ration, protein levels are slightly reduced to 20 or 21 percent with a metabolizable energy of 3100 Kcal per kg.
• An ideal ratio of 150 to 155 is sought in finisher ration.

• Nutritionists adjust vitamin levels, particularly vitamins A and K, based on farm conditions to support optimal bird growth.
• Increased vitamin levels are recommended, especially in cases where there is a risk of mild coccidiosis.

• Methionine is the most crucial amino acid in typical broiler feeds.
• A deficiency in methionine may lead to sub-optimal broiler performance.
• Meeting methionine and cystine requirements can enhance the feed conversion ratio of broilers.

• Coccidiostats are consistently added to broiler rations to prevent coccidiosis.
• It is recommended to rotate between different coccidiostats to prevent protozoa from developing tolerance.
