Ans. The color of coordination compounds is due to a phenomenon called ligand field splitting. When light interacts with a coordination compound, the energy of the incident light is absorbed by the metal ion's d-orbitals. The absorbed energy corresponds to a specific wavelength, resulting in the compound's characteristic color. Different ligands can lead to different ligand field splitting and, therefore, different colors in coordination compounds.
