North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme

Why in News?
In all, 145 projects have been approved/sanctioned for a total cost of Rs.3392.98 crore under North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) since inception.

About North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme

• It is a Central Sector Scheme, i.e., 100% of the funding will be done by the Central Government.
• It will cover infrastructure in the following areas:-
  • Physical Infrastructure: Water Supply, Power, Connectivity, Tourism related projects
  • Social Infrastructure: Education and Health
• NESIDS will be over and above other existing schemes of Central and State governments of the North East Region.

National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT)

Why in News?
Recently, eight projects under the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) have been sanctioned and approved by the Government of India.

National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT)

• Purpose: The NICDIT is responsible for the implementation of the National Industrial Corridor Programme.
• National Industrial Corridor Programme: The Indian government is working on the development of various industrial corridor projects as part of the National Industrial Corridor Programme.
• Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV): The industrial corridors are being implemented through a special purpose vehicle in the form of a company, set up as a joint venture between the central and state governments under the Companies Act, 2013.
• Expansion of Scope: In 2016, the government approved the expansion of the existing DMIC-Project Implementation Trust Fund (PITF) and renamed it as the NICDIT.
• Nodal Ministry: The NICDIT operates under the administrative control of the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), which is part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

IEEE C-DOT Certified Telecom Expert Program (ICCTEP)

Why in News?
Recently, the Secretary (Telecom) of, the Government of India launched the ‘IEEE C-DOT Certified Telecom Expert Program (ICCTEP)’.

• ICCTEP is a result of collaboration between the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT).
• IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization working to advance technology for the betterment of humanity.
• IEEE inspires a global community through its various activities, including highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional & educational programs.

About Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT)

• C-DOT is the premier R&D center of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India.
• C-DOT has designed various cutting-edge Telecom technologies, including 4G/5G, Disaster Management, Cyber Security, and Quantum Communications.

Program Benefits

• The ICCTEP offers a specially-tailored certification program aimed at providing quality learning in diverse areas of Telecom.
• The program focuses on building skills that would increase participation of students, academia, technologists, industry, start-ups, and other relevant stakeholders in developing globally-competitive Telecom technologies and solutions.
