The Government of India constituted a statutory body, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau on 6th June 2007, by amending the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The bureau would complement the efforts of the state governments, primary enforcers of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and other enforcement agencies of the country.

Activities Covered Under NLCP
The preamble of the act calls for the establishment of a National Green Tribunal (NGT) to ensure the effective and prompt resolution of cases related to environmental protection, conservation of forests, and other natural resources. This includes the enforcement of legal rights related to the environment, granting relief, compensating for damages to persons and property, and other connected matters (The National Green Tribunal Act, 2010).
