FAQs on Short Tricks: Digestion & Absorption Video Lecture - Biology Class 11 - NEET

1. What is digestion and absorption?
Ans. Digestion is the process by which food is broken down into smaller molecules that can be absorbed by the body. Absorption, on the other hand, is the process by which these smaller molecules are taken up by the cells of the body and transported to where they are needed.
2. How does digestion occur in the human body?
Ans. Digestion starts in the mouth, where food is chewed and mixed with saliva. It then travels down the esophagus into the stomach, where it is further broken down by stomach acid and enzymes. From the stomach, the partially digested food moves into the small intestine, where it is further broken down by enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the liver. The final breakdown and absorption of nutrients occur in the small intestine.
3. What are the main organs involved in digestion and absorption?
Ans. The main organs involved in digestion and absorption are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, pancreas, liver, and gallbladder. Each organ plays a specific role in the digestion and absorption process.
4. How are nutrients absorbed by the body?
Ans. Nutrients are absorbed by the body through the lining of the small intestine. The inner surface of the small intestine is covered in tiny finger-like projections called villi, which increase the surface area for absorption. Nutrients pass through the cells of the villi and enter the bloodstream or lymphatic system, where they are transported to the cells and tissues that need them.
5. What happens to undigested food in the body?
Ans. Undigested food, along with waste products, passes into the large intestine. The large intestine absorbs water and electrolytes from the undigested food, forming solid waste known as feces. Feces are then eliminated from the body through the rectum and anus during the process of defecation.
