UPSC CSE Salary – Perks & Other Benefits

Officers selected through UPSC CSE, get perks like- Official residence, Official vehicles with a driver, Paid leaves, Education facilities, Free or subsidized utilities, Servants, Medical Facilities, Government guest room facilities, Security personnel, etc. Details about the perks received are as follows:

• Official Residence- All officers whether IAS, IPS, or other services, usually get a Government Bungalow or a 3BHK apartment. In case if they don’t get a Government HRA is provided. IFS officers are provided with government residence in the respective country they are posted. Officers while travelling can also avail the facilities of Government Guest Houses.
• Utilities- Officers are provided with free or subsidised water, electricity, phone connection, cooking gas, etc.
• Security- IAS officers are provided with 2 police personnel and 3 home guards for security. For other services, the security provided varies as per the working conditions.
• Official Vehicles- As a Government Officer, you will get an official vehicle and a driver for your official duties.
• Medical treatment- Officers are provided with free or state-subsidized medical care. Health Insurance benefits are also provided to officers.
• Leaves- Officers selected through UPSC CSE get 30 earned leaves, 8 casual leaves, 20 gazetted holidays and about 20 half-pay leaves.
• Hardship Allowance- Officers working in Naxal areas, Ladakh and North East also get a hardship or tough location allowance. It varies from Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 25,500 per month.
• Education facilities- All India services (IAS, IPS and IFS) officers after completing 7 years of service can take a 2-year paid leave and study allowances to study in Indian or Foreign Universities. Before availing of this facility, officers have to sign a bond with the Government that they will render their services for a prescribed number of years.
• Post-retirement benefits- Officers who have joined prior to 2004 get a lifetime pension from Government funds. While officers who have joined after 2004 will get pensions as per their respective pension scheme. Extensions and post-retirement postings are also offered to Government officers. Union Cabinet Secretary and State Cabinet secretary also get residential plots on retirement.

UPSC Jobs Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

For the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service, and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India.
For other services, a candidate must be either: 

• a citizen of India or (b) a subject of Nepal 
• a subject of Bhutan 
• a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 intending to permanently settle in India 
• a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam intending to permanently settle in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India. 

Minimum Educational Qualification

A candidate must hold a Graduate degree from any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.

Age

• A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years 
• The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable: 
  • up to a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe; 
  • up to a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates; 
  • up to a maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services Personnel, disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof; 
  • up to a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and Emergency Commissioned Officers (ECOs)/ Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs) who have rendered at least five years of Military Service 
  • up to a maximum of five years in the case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years of Military Service 
  • up to a maximum of 10 years in the case of candidates belonging to Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) categories viz. (i) blindness and low vision; (ii) deaf and hard of hearing; (iii) locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; (iv) autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability, and mental illness; (v) multiple disabilities from amongst person under clauses (i) to (iv) including deaf-blindness

Every candidate appearing at the examination, who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted six (6) attempts at the CSE. However, relaxation in the number of attempts will be available to the SC/ST/OBC and PwBD category candidates who are otherwise eligible. How to Apply for Civil Services Posts?

Every year Union Public Services Commission conducts CSE to recruit candidates for various civil services posts. The UPSC CSE application starts around February-March of every year.
