Although the Civil Services Examination (CSE) is still conducted in a traditional paper and pencil format, the process of registering and paying for the exams is done online.

UPSC CSE 2023 Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: It is necessary to be a citizen of India to apply for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Aspirants having Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized college or university can apply for Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2023.
  • Age Limit: The minimum age of the aspirant applying for UPSC CSE 2023 should be 21 years and the maximum age should be 32 years. However, the upper age limit has been relaxed by Union Government for certain categories like SC, ST, OBC, Defense Services personnel and others.
  • Application Fee: General aspirants are required to pay a fee of Rs.100 and no fees for others.

  • Read the application form instructions carefully and click on Yes.
  • In the Part-I application form, you need to provide all the necessary personal information, such as your name, date of birth, category, gender, email address, contact number, permanent address, marital status, parents' names, community, and educational background.
  • Once all the details are filled in, click on Continue. Check all details in the online form carefully and click on Submit.

Steps to fill Part II of the UPSC CSE 2023 application form

After filling the Part -I of the form , Now you have to fill up the Part -II of registration as to complete the registration process.

  • You can pay the UPSC application fee either online using net banking, debit card, or credit card or offline by cash through SBI bank challan. The fee for female candidates, SC/ST/PwBD is zero, while for all other candidates it is Rs 100.
  • Upload scanned images of photograph, signature and photo ID card as per the UPSC specifications.
  • Enter the information related to fee payment details and the examination centre.
  • Click on the ‘I Agree’ button after reading the declaration.
  • On clicking the button, a page with a registration number will be generated. Note down the registration number. Take a printout of the page.

How to apply online for UPSC CSE Mains 2023?

If you qualify for UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2023 you can apply for UPSC CSE Mains 2023.
You need to submit the Detailed Application Form I (DAF-I) online on upsconline.nic.in.

How to apply online for UPSC Interview 2023-24?

If you qualify for UPSC Civil Services Main Examination 2023 can apply for UPSC Interview 2023.
You need to submit the Detailed Application Form II (DAF-II) online on upsconline.nic.in.

How to pay the UPSC CSE Exam application fee?

UPSC charges a nominal fee from candidates for both the Prelims and Mains exams. The payment of the exam fee can be made either online or offline.

Online Mode: The application fee can be paid online using a Visa, Master, RuPay credit or debit card or through internet banking.

Offline Mode: Aspirants who prefer to pay the application fee offline can do so by depositing cash at any branch of the State Bank of India (SBI). Those who choose the "Pay by Cash" option must print the generated payment slip during Part-II registration and pay the fee at an SBI branch counter on the next working day. Please note that the "Pay by Cash" mode will be disabled one day prior to the close of the application process. However, those who have already generated their payment slip before the mode is disabled can still make the payment at any SBI branch during banking hours on the final day of the application period.

Preliminary Exam Fee: Rs. 100 for General/OBC Male Candidates

Mains Exam Fee: Rs. 200 for General/OBC Male Candidates

Note: Females/ SC/ ST/ Persons with Benchmark Disability are exempted from the payment of fees.

How to withdraw the UPSC CSE 2023 application?

You can withdraw their UPSC application by doing the following steps:

  • Visit the official website – upsc.gov.in
  • Click on the ‘What’s new’ section
  • Go to the Withdrawal of Application: Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2023
  • On the new screen, click on the link given for the withdrawal
  • Application withdrawal link given at the right corner
  • Read the instructions and click on the Yes button
  • Enter your registration-id and press continue
  • Enter the following details: (1) Name (2) Gender (3) Date of Birth (4) Father’s Name (5) Mother’s Name (6) Mobile Number (7) e-mail id
  • Select the option for the withdrawal of the application and press agree.

In the above manner, you can withdraw their UPSC CSE 2023 application.

How to download UPSC e-admit Card Online?

UPSC now issues electronic admit cards, replacing the traditional paper hall tickets. After applying, you can download your e-admit card one month prior to the exam and must bring a printed copy to the examination venue.

In case of an error in the application form, is there an option to fill another form?

No, once the application form for UPSC CSE is submitted, there is no option to submit another form in case of errors.

Who all are restricted from applying for the UPSC CSE Exam?
