hi I want to show you how to create grid
text effect and I'm going to do two
types of texts the first one you see
that the grid the squares are all the
same size but the text looks kind of
blocky of course baby this fact that you
want to achieve and in the second type
of text you see that we have smooth
round shapes but of course the squares
that make the grid are not all the same
size let's start with the first one
which i think is a lot more interesting
to do and first thing I'm going to do is
select the file menu and close this go
to file again select new and select one
of the templates here this one then from
the Advanced Options i'm going to select
fill with foreground color which is
black then click OK next grab the text
tool click i'm going to write gimp after
that control a to select the text click
here to change the color to white for
now click OK then click on the bolt
option then here I'm going to type 250
pixels click enter to apply grab the
move tool and I'm going to position the
text over here and also zoom in a little
bit next I'll go to filters and select
the Jimmy plugin now if you don't have
this I recommend that you get it it's a
very useful plugin with a lot of filters
I'm going to include the link in the

and use it and from here I'm going to
select this array and frames and I'm
going to find grid selected and here for
the excise i'm going to type 7 and for
the white size also seven and then i'll
click ok and this move the text over
here so soon out and grab the moves to
and position at the game
zoom in next I'll select the slip bike
our to use the default threshold zoom in
here click and then holding down the
shift key I want to add to the selection
so I'm just going to click until I add
all of these to the selection
when you're ready with the selection you
can fill the squares with the color of
your choice using the color selection
dialog you can click here on the
foreground color bring out the color
selection dialog select the color click
OK and then use the Edit menu filled
with the foreground color or you can
just use the keyboard shortcut control
collar but I'm going to undo this would
control Z and use the blend tool one of
the gradients this one over here I'm
going to select it then click hold down
the control key and then release and
this will fill with this gradient
control shift a to dis select and you
see how our text looks now there are
some problems around the text which we
can fix using the rectangle select tool
the keyboard shortcut is our and for
example over here we see that the square
is missing so let's grab the rectangle
select tool make a selection then ctrl-c
to copy can show v to paste then M key
for the move tool and position this over
here and we can just click away to
remove the selection and if you want to
copy and paste using the menus you can
go to the edit copy paste and move to
with this one so my goal here is to make
this text symmetric and I can see here
for example that I need to remove this
so I can grab again the rectangle select
tool using the our key and I'm going to
make a selection and just hit the Delete
key then ctrl shift a to deselect and I
notice that here we have six rows of
squares and here we have just five so we
can remove this or we can decide to add
here and if you want to add we can just
grab a game the rectangular select tool
and I'm going to make a selection here
and I need five
ctrl-c to copy ctrl v to paste em key
and i can position this over here and
you can copy and paste them again
position them over here then click away
to dis select so you need to spend some
time editing to make sure this text is
symmetric and I'm going to pulse here to
do that so after five minutes of copying
pasting and moving around I think the
text looks pretty good so go ahead and
