Oh.... its too simple yrr..... didn't you get any difference between glass slab and glass prism !!!!
if u hav noticed then u definitely knows about their structure or their model.

glass prism produce spectrum or dispersion of light jst becz of their 60 degree angled faces......
bt if we talk abt the glass slab...
then their faces are parllel to each other and jst becz of that galss slab doesnt produce any spectrum through their faces !!!!

Why does a glass prism produce a spectrum but a glass slab does not?


When white light is passed through a glass prism, it undergoes refraction, which causes it to split into its constituent colors. This is because the refractive index of glass varies with the wavelength of light, with shorter wavelengths being refracted more than longer wavelengths. The result is a spectrum of colors, with violet being refracted the most and red the least.


However, when white light is passed through a glass slab, it does not undergo sufficient refraction to produce a spectrum. This is because a glass slab has parallel sides, which means that the angle of incidence and the angle of refraction are the same for all wavelengths of light. As a result, there is no dispersion, and the light emerges from the slab in the same colors as it entered.


Key differences between a glass prism and a glass slab



  • Shape: A glass prism has a triangular shape, while a glass slab has a rectangular shape with parallel sides.

  • Refraction: A glass prism causes sufficient refraction to split white light into its constituent colors, while a glass slab does not cause enough refraction to produce a spectrum.

  • Angle of incidence and refraction: The angle of incidence and the angle of refraction are different for different wavelengths of light in a glass prism, but they are the same for all wavelengths in a glass slab.
