According to me as our eyes are filled with liquids such as aquous humuor nd vitrous humour and a eye lens is present between them so when light rays travel from external environment to our body through the cornea then the light rays suffers multiple refractions and deviation in its path and as a result it then strikes the retina where the image is interpreted by the optic nerves due to which it is sent to brain and brain recognises it and we can see the object .
