Characteristics of Systemic Circulation:

Systemic circulation is the part of the cardiovascular system that carries oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body and returns deoxygenated blood back to the heart. The following are the characteristics of systemic circulation:

Highly oxygenated arterial blood:
Arteries carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the body's organs and tissues. The oxygenated blood is rich in oxygen and nutrients, which are necessary for the proper functioning of the organs. As the blood travels through the arteries, it delivers oxygen to the tissues, and the tissues use the oxygen to produce energy.

Low oxygenated venous blood:
Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. The deoxygenated blood is low in oxygen and high in carbon dioxide, which is a waste product produced by the tissues. The veins carry the deoxygenated blood back to the heart, where it is pumped to the lungs to get oxygenated again.

Increased blood pressure in the arteries:
The arteries have thick walls that are designed to withstand the high pressure of the blood being pumped from the heart. As the heart contracts, it pumps blood into the arteries, which causes the blood pressure to increase. The high pressure in the arteries helps to ensure that the blood is delivered to the body's organs and tissues.

Decreased blood pressure in the veins:
Unlike the arteries, the veins have thin walls that are not designed to withstand high pressure. As the blood flows through the veins, the pressure decreases. To help the blood flow back to the heart, the veins have valves that prevent the blood from flowing backward. The contraction of the muscles around the veins also helps to push the blood back to the heart.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the systemic circulation is responsible for carrying oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body's organs and tissues and returning deoxygenated blood back to the heart. The characteristics of systemic circulation include highly oxygenated arterial blood, low oxygenated venous blood, increased blood pressure in the arteries, and decreased blood pressure in the veins.
