Sharad covers two-third of a certain distance at 4 km/hr and the remai...
Let the distance be x km.
Sharad covers 2/3rd dist. at 4km/hr
=> 4 km in 1hr
then, (2/3)*x km in = 2x/12 hr = x/6 hr

Rest 1/3rd distance at 5km/hr
=> 5km in 1hr
then, (1/3)*x km in = x/15 hr

Total time taken = 42/60 hr
x/6 + x/15 = 7/10
(5x+2x)/30 = 7/10
7x/30 = 7/10
x = 3 km.
