periodic table element is a tubular display of the chemical elements ,which are arranged in atomic number ,electronic configuration, and recurring chemical properties .

the structure of the table shows periodic trends like

the seven row of the table are called PERIOD generally have metal on the left and non metal on the right side of the table

the columns are called GROUPS, it contains that element that have similar chemical behaviours

Six group have accepted name as well as assigned number

example :-

group 17 are known as HALOGEN group

group 18 are called NOBEL gas

like this the periodic table design

hope you get helped

thanks

Periodic Classification of Elements

The periodic classification of elements is a system that arranges elements based on their properties and atomic numbers. It was first proposed by Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869 and has since been refined to reflect our understanding of the elements.

Importance of Periodic Classification

The periodic classification of elements is essential in understanding the properties and behavior of elements. It provides a systematic way to organize the vast number of known elements and helps predict the properties of undiscovered elements.

Periodic Table

The periodic table is the visual representation of the periodic classification of elements. It consists of rows called periods and columns called groups. The elements are arranged in increasing order of atomic number, and elements with similar properties are placed in the same group.

Periods

- The periodic table has seven periods, numbered from 1 to 7.
- Each period represents the energy level or shell occupied by the elements.
- The first period has only two elements (hydrogen and helium), while the subsequent periods have up to 32 elements.

Groups

- The periodic table has eighteen groups, numbered from 1 to 18.
- Elements in the same group have similar properties and the same number of valence electrons.
- Groups 1 and 2 are known as the s-block elements, while groups 13 to 18 are known as the p-block elements. The transition metals are found in groups 3 to 12.

Trends in Periodic Table

- Atomic Size: As we move from left to right across a period, the atomic size decreases due to increased nuclear charge.
- Metallic and Non-Metallic Character: Metals are found on the left side of the periodic table, while non-metals are located on the right side. Metalloids, which exhibit properties of both metals and non-metals, are found along the zigzag line.
- Valency: Valency is the combining capacity of an element. Elements in the same group have the same valency.
- Electronegativity: Electronegativity is the tendency of an atom to attract electrons towards itself. It generally increases from left to right across a period.

Conclusion

The periodic classification of elements is a crucial tool in understanding the properties and behavior of elements. The periodic table provides a visual representation of this classification, allowing scientists to organize and predict the properties of elements. By studying the trends in the periodic table, we can gain insights into the behavior of elements and their compounds.
