Solution:

Given, there are seven students who sit on three benches I, II and III.

Let us denote the girls as G1, G2, G3 and the boys as B1, B2, B3 and B4.

From the given information, we can infer the following:

- At least two students on each bench and at least one girl on each bench. Hence, we can assume that bench I has two girls and one boy, bench II has one girl and two boys and bench III has one girl and two boys.
- C, who is a girl student, does not sit with A, E and D. Hence, C cannot sit on bench I as A is on bench I. Also, C cannot sit on bench III as G sits on bench III. Therefore, C must sit on bench II.
- F the boy student sits with only B. Hence, B must be on bench II with F.
- A sits on the bench I with their best friends. Hence, A must be on bench I with G1 and B3.
- G sits on the bench III. Hence, G must be on bench III with B1 and B2.
- E is the brother of C. Hence, E must be on bench I or III. But as A is on bench I, E must be on bench III.

Therefore, the arrangement of the students on the benches is as follows:

Bench I: G1, B3, A, E

Bench II: G2, F, B

Bench III: G3, B1, G

Hence, the number of girls is either 3 (if we consider G2, G3, and C) or 4 (if we consider G1, G2, G3, and C). Therefore, the correct answer is option (B) 3 or 4.
