In India the Ali-Brothers started the Khilafat movement to influence the British Empire to protect Ottoman King, who was regarded as the leader of Muslim's world-wide. This movement soon won the support of Mahatma Gandhi and the Hindu Congress, for the cause of uniting India's two most populous religions, namely Hinduism and Islam.
Therefore, the foreign ruler Ottoman King's struggle against anti-colonial rule from another kingdom, became closely connected with India's nationalist movement.
