What is photosynthesis? Explain its mechanism?
Most Upvoted Answer
What is photosynthesis? Explain its mechanism?
Photosynthesis is the process of producing their own food by plants .

Explanation :-

The mechanism of photosynthesis is an oxidation - reduction reaction.

In this process light energy is trapped by chloroplasts and the atmospheric carbon dioxide is fixed as carbon source and undergo many cycles called kerbs cycle and produce sugars as end products along with evolution of oxygen.

The mechanism of photosynthesis is very complex process.

What is photosynthesis? Explain its mechanism?
Photosynthesis:
Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods with the help of carbon dioxide and water. It is the primary source of energy for all living beings on earth.

Mechanism of Photosynthesis:
Photosynthesis is a two-stage process that occurs in the chloroplasts of plant cells. The chloroplasts contain chlorophyll, which is the pigment that gives plants their green color and is responsible for capturing the energy from sunlight. The two stages of photosynthesis are:

1. Light-dependent reactions:
This stage occurs in the thylakoid membrane of the chloroplasts and is dependent on light. Light energy is captured by the chlorophyll and converted into chemical energy in the form of ATP and NADPH. The process involves the following steps:

- The absorption of light by chlorophyll molecules.
- The splitting of water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen ions.
- The production of ATP and NADPH.
- The release of oxygen gas into the atmosphere.

2. Light-independent reactions:
This stage occurs in the stroma of the chloroplasts and is not dependent on light. The chemical energy produced in the light-dependent reactions is used to convert carbon dioxide into glucose. The process involves the following steps:

- The fixation of carbon dioxide into a 5-carbon molecule called ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP).
- The formation of two 3-carbon molecules called glycerate-3-phosphate (GP).
- The reduction of GP into triose phosphate using ATP and NADPH.
- The regeneration of RuBP using ATP.

Conclusion:
Photosynthesis is an essential process that sustains life on earth. It is responsible for producing the oxygen we breathe and the food we eat. Understanding the mechanism of photosynthesis is crucial for developing sustainable energy sources and improving agricultural practices.
