Given information:
- The shopkeeper purchases 50 pens at Rs 10 per pen, which costs him Rs 500.
- He sells a part of the packet at a profit of 30%, which means he sells it at Rs 13 per pen.
- On the remaining part, he incurs a loss of 10%, which means he sells it at Rs 9 per pen.
- His overall profit on the whole packet is 10%.

To find: The number of pens he sold at a profit.

Solution:
Let's assume the shopkeeper sold x pens at a profit of 30% and (50-x) pens at a loss of 10%.

Profit on x pens = 30% of cost price = 0.3*10x = 3x
Loss on (50-x) pens = 10% of cost price = 0.1*10(50-x) = 5-0.1x

Overall profit = Profit on x pens + Loss on (50-x) pens
10% of cost price = (3x + 5-0.1x)/500 * 100
10 = (2.9x + 5)/50
2.9x + 5 = 500/10 * 10
2.9x = 45
x = 15

Therefore, the shopkeeper sold 15 pens at a profit of 30% and 35 pens at a loss of 10%. The answer is option (A) 25.
