A + 4 = 2 * (H – 4)
A + 4 = 2H – 8
A + 12 = 2H
1.5H + 12 = 2H

Sum = 36 + 24 = 60

Assume Hari's age as x. So Amit's age is 1.5x (given in question).
Present ages;
Amit. Hari
1.5x. x
4years ago from present their ages;
Amit. Hari
(1.5x-4). (x-4)
4 years later from present their ages;
A. H
1.5x+4. x+4
Given in question,
After 4 years Amits age will be twice of Harris age 4 years ago...
this means 2*(x-4) = 1.5x+4
Main question is based on the understanding of above equation. If I have taken Amits present age as 1.5x. His age will be 1.5x+4 after four years right? If my age is 21 in 2019 then my age will be 25 after four years.
1.5x+4 is true in terms of basic understanding.
but in question it is also given that Amit will be twice of Harris age four years ago after 4 years.
twice of Harris age four years ago equals 1.5x+4
2*(x-4)=1.5x+4
after solving x=24
put the value of x in present ages of A and H
I.e A=1.5*24 = 36 and B = 24
sum of their ages = 60.
