Following are the two statements regarding the origin of life :
(a) The earliest organisms that appeared on the earth were non-green and presumably
anaerobes.
(b) The first autotrophic organisms were the chemoautotrophs that never released oxygen.
Of the above statements which one of the following options is correct ?
  • a)
Both (a) and (b) are false.
  • b)
    (a) is correct but (b) is false.
  • c)

Following are the two statements regarding the origin of life :(a) The...
Origin of Life: Non-Green and Anaerobic Organisms

Statement (a) - The earliest organisms that appeared on the earth were non-green and presumably anaerobes.

This statement is widely accepted by scientists based on several pieces of evidence such as the presence of stromatolites, fossilized remains of microbial mats, and the absence of free oxygen in the early atmosphere. The earliest organisms were likely heterotrophic, meaning they obtained their energy from organic molecules in their environment. These organisms were also likely anaerobic, meaning they did not require oxygen for survival and may have even been inhibited by it.

First Autotrophic Organisms: Chemoautotrophs

Statement (b) - The first autotrophic organisms were the chemoautotrophs that never released oxygen.

This statement is also widely accepted by scientists. Chemoautotrophs are organisms that obtain their energy by oxidizing inorganic compounds such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and methane. They do not require sunlight or organic molecules to survive and are therefore considered autotrophic. Unlike photosynthetic organisms, chemoautotrophs do not release oxygen as a byproduct of their metabolism. Instead, they may release substances such as sulfur or methane.

Conclusion

Both statements (a) and (b) are correct based on current scientific understanding of the origin of life. The earliest organisms were likely non-green and anaerobic, while the first autotrophic organisms were chemoautotrophs that did not release oxygen.

Following are the two statements regarding the origin of life :(a) The...
The first living organisms originated among organic molecules and in oxygen free atmosphere that is reducing atmosphere. they presumebly obtain energy by fermentation of some of these organic molecules. they were anaerobic, capable of respiration in the absence of oxygen . they require readymade organic material as food and thus they were heterotrophs.then the supply of existing organic molecules very exhausted some of the heterotrophs might have evolved into autotrophs these organisms were capable of producing their own organic molecules by chemosynthesis or photosynthesis .organisms performing chemosynthesis are called chemoautotrophs ,there were anaerobic. later photoautotrophs came into existence developing chlorophyll pigment in them by combination of simple chemicals. therefore option d is correct.
