DNA is polar due to the presence of the phosphate backbone which makes it water soluble. But ethanol is much less polar than water due to which DNA is not soluble in ethanol and precipitates out. Also nucleic acids are not soluble I'm ethanol. So both DNA and RNA gets precipitated.
