In the hydroboration - oxidation reaction of propene with diborane, H2...
The hydroboration-oxidation reaction is a two-step process that involves the addition of a boron atom and subsequent oxidation to yield an alcohol. In the case of propene (CH3CH=CH2), the reaction proceeds as follows:

Step 1: Hydroboration
- Diborane (B2H6) reacts with propene in the presence of a solvent such as tetrahydrofuran (THF) or diethyl ether.
- The pi bond of propene attacks one of the boron atoms in diborane, forming a three-membered cyclic intermediate called a borane.
- The borane adds to the less substituted carbon of propene, resulting in the formation of an alkylborane (CH3CH2CH2BH2).

Step 2: Oxidation
- The alkylborane is then treated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in the presence of sodium hydroxide (NaOH).
- The H2O2 acts as an oxidizing agent, converting the boron atom of the alkylborane into a hydroxyl group (-OH).
- At the same time, the alkyl group remains unchanged.
- The resulting product is an alcohol with the same carbon skeleton as the alkylborane.
- In the case of propene, the alkylborane CH3CH2CH2BH2 is converted into 1-propanol (CH3CH2CH2OH).

Therefore, the correct answer is option 'C' (CH3CH2CH2OH), which represents 1-propanol.
