Working of AC and DC Generator

AC Generator:

Working:

1. When the rotor is rotated, a magnetic field is created around it.
2. As the rotor rotates, the magnetic field passes through the stator coil, inducing an alternating current (AC) in the coil.
3. The AC current is then collected by the slip rings and transferred to the external circuit through the brushes.
4. The direction of the current changes periodically as the rotor continues to rotate, resulting in the generation of alternating current.

DC Generator:
A DC generator, also known as a dynamo, operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction and consists of the following components:

1. Armature: The armature is a rotating coil of wire that is connected to the external circuit.
2. Field Magnets: The field magnets create a magnetic field in which the armature rotates.
3. Commutator: The commutator is a split ring that reverses the direction of the current in the armature coil every half rotation.
4. Brushes: The brushes are stationary carbon contacts that maintain electrical contact with the commutator.

Working:

1. When the armature rotates, a magnetic field is created around it due to the field magnets.
2. As the armature rotates, the magnetic field passes through the coil, inducing an electromotive force (emf) in the coil.
3. The emf generated in the coil is converted into direct current (DC) by the commutator, which reverses the direction of the current every half rotation.
4. The DC current is then collected by the brushes and transferred to the external circuit.
