The Lok Sabha is the lower house of the Indian Parliament. It is also known as the House of the People. The total number of seats in the Lok Sabha is determined by the Constitution of India.

Constitutional Provisions

The Constitution of India provides for the composition of the Lok Sabha in Article 81. According to this article, the maximum number of seats in the Lok Sabha is 552. This number is made up of:

- Not more than 530 seats to represent the states
- Up to 20 seats to represent the Union Territories
- Two seats to be filled by members of the Anglo-Indian community, if the President believes that this community is not adequately represented in the Lok Sabha.

However, the Constitution also empowers Parliament to increase or decrease the number of seats in the Lok Sabha. This can be done by law, subject to certain conditions.

Current Composition
