Ideal conditions for formation of dew and frost

Conditions for formation of dew

- Clear sky: Dew forms when the temperature of the surface drops below the dew point temperature of the surrounding air. Clear skies allow the earth's surface to radiate heat into space, causing it to cool down quickly.
- Calm air: When the air is calm, the heat from the surface is not carried away by the wind, allowing it to cool down more quickly.
- High relative humidity: The higher the relative humidity, the closer the temperature of the air is to the dew point temperature. This means that the air is more likely to become saturated and for dew to form.
- Cold and long nights: Dew forms when the surface temperature drops below the dew point temperature of the surrounding air. This is more likely to happen on colder nights when the temperature difference between the surface and the air is greater. Longer nights also mean that there is more time for the surface to cool down.

Conditions for formation of frost

- Same as dew: The ideal conditions for formation of frost are completely the same as those for formation of dew, i.e. clear sky, calm air, high relative humidity and cold and long nights.

Correct statement

- Only 1: The correct statement is that the ideal conditions for formation of dew are clear sky, calm air, high relative humidity and cold and long nights.
