Answer

Because real numbers are the only numbers which can be represented on cartesian plane , rationals and irrationals are the only the numbers which can be represented on cartesian plane and can be used in all types of basic arithmetic, where as excepting real numbers there is another type of numbers called imaginary numbers but the can't be represented on cartesian plane they need a special plane called argand plane to be represented . So all usable numbers of basic mathematics are considered to be real numbers!
