When its food comes into its oral groove which is a channel with lots of hair like structures called cilia which helps it to engulf its food . - The lysosomes, which contain digestive enzymes, fuse with the food vacuole and digest the food particle.
- The digested food is then absorbed by the cytoplasm of the amoeba.

Nutrition in Paramecium

Paramecium is a unicellular organism that lives in freshwater. It obtains its nutrition by the process of ciliary feeding. The process of ciliary feeding involves the following steps:

- Paramecium uses its cilia to create a current of water that draws in food particles.
- The food particles are then directed towards the oral groove, where they are trapped by the cilia.
- The food particles are then directed towards the mouth pore, where they enter the cell.
- The food particles are then enclosed in a food vacuole.
- The food vacuole then moves towards the center of the paramecium.
- The lysosomes, which contain digestive enzymes, fuse with the food vacuole and digest the food particle.
- The digested food is then absorbed by the cytoplasm of the paramecium.

4. Assimilation:

Amoeba is a unicellular protozoan and the mode of nutrition is holozoic. It is omnivorous in nature i.e, it can take both plants and animals as food source. Amoeba feeds on unicellular plants or animals such as paramoecium. The various steps of nutrition are ingestion, digestion, assimilation and egestion.

Amoeba sends out finger like pseudopodia up on contact with food and engulfs the food by the process called ingestion. This results in the formation of food vacuole.

Food vacuole releases digestive juices, that results in the breakdown of complex food particles into simple molecules by the process digestion.
