  • Barium chloride (BaCl2) + Aluminium sulphate (Al2(SO4)3) → Aluminium chloride (AlCl3) + Barium sulphate (BaSO4)



Balanced Chemical Equation:



  • 3BaCl2 + Al2(SO4)3 → 2AlCl3 + 3BaSO4



Explanation:


Barium chloride (BaCl2) and aluminium sulphate (Al2(SO4)3) react to form aluminium chloride (AlCl3) and a precipitate of barium sulphate (BaSO4). This reaction is a double displacement reaction where the cations and anions of the two compounds switch partners. Barium chloride and aluminium sulphate are soluble in water, but when they react, barium sulphate is insoluble and forms a precipitate. This can be observed as a white solid settling at the bottom of the reaction vessel.


By balancing the chemical equation, we ensure that the number of atoms of each element is the same on both sides of the equation.
