How we find a reaction is exothermic or endothermic?
Reaction involved with releasing of heat energy along with the product is called "Exothermic Reaction".
Examples:
1. Burning of Coal.
C + O2 = CO2 + Heat↑.
2. Combustion of natural gas.
CH4 + 2O2 = CO2 + 2H2O + Heat↑.
3. Respiration.
C6H12O6 + 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H2O + Energy↑.
As you can see the above reactions, where heat is liberated. Hence it is called "Exothermic Reaction".
Reaction involved with absorption of heat energy is called "Endothermic Reaction".
Examples:
1) Mixing water with Potassium Chloride.
2) Mixing water and Ammonium nitrate.
3) Reacting Ethanoic acid with Sodium Carbonate.
