There is a lot of heat dissipated inside an electric filament. So, the filament need to be made out from a metal which has a very high boiling point so that the filament will not melt even though the bulb is used for a long time. Tungsten (whose boiling pint is around 5500 degrees Celsius) is the best suited for this purpose.
