Calculation of Product Formed in Reaction A 2B->C


Given Data:


  • Initial amount of A = 5 mol

  • Initial amount of B = 8 mol

  • Reaction: A + 2B -> C



Calculating Limiting Reagent:


  • Moles of A required for the reaction = 2 x Moles of B

  • Moles of B required for the reaction = 0.5 x Moles of A

  • Moles of B available = 8 mol

  • Moles of A available = 5 mol

  • Calculating moles of B required for reaction: 0.5 x 5 = 2.5 mol



As the amount of B required for the reaction is more than the amount of B available, B is the limiting reagent.


Calculating Moles of Product Formed:


  • From the balanced chemical equation, 1 mole of A reacts with 2 moles of B to form 1 mole of C

  • Thus, moles of C formed = moles of limiting reagent used = 2 mol
