Difference between Gross Enrolment Ratio and Net Attendance Ratio

Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER)

The Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) is the ratio of the total number of students enrolled in a particular level of education to the population of the corresponding age group for that level of education. It is an indicator of the level of participation in education and is usually expressed as a percentage. For example, if there are 100 students enrolled in Class X and the population of the age group for Class X is 200, then the GER for Class X would be 50%.


Net Attendance Ratio (NAR)

The Net Attendance Ratio (NAR) is the ratio of the number of students attending a particular level of education to the population of the corresponding age group for that level of education. It is an indicator of the level of actual attendance in education and is usually expressed as a percentage. For example, if there are 100 students enrolled in Class X and 80 students attend the school regularly, then the NAR for Class X would be 80%.
