Mithila or Madhubani painting was created by women of different communities in Mithila region of Bihar.it is also practised in areas of Bihar. It is done with a variety of tools like twigs, brushes, fingers and uses natural dyes and pigments. It is characterised by its geometrical pattern. It has specific designs for particular occasion like birth, marriage, festivals like Holi, Durga Puja etc. The Central theme of the painting is Hindu God and Goddesses. Some of the main attribute of these paintings are double line border, bold use of colours, ornate floral patterns, abstract like figure of deities. Various styles of painting include Bharni, Tantrik, Katchni, Godna and Kohbar. Mithila paintings have been accorded GI tag.
