Most Upvoted Answer
Statement A : Electron affinity of fluorine is more than that of chlor...
The electron affinity of the fluorine is less than chlorine because the size of fluorine is too small as size decreases from left to right inside a period, whereas chlorine has a larger size to accommodate electrons hence electron affinity of chlorine is more than fluorine.
We can say that carbon monoxide is a neutral oxide in nature as it does not react with an acid or base to produce salt, therefore the statement that CO is an acidic oxide is false.
As the both given statements are false,so option(d) is correct.

Statement A : Electron affinity of fluorine is more than that of chlor...
Statement A : Electron affinity of fluorine is more than that of chlorine.

The electron affinity of an atom refers to the energy change that occurs when an electron is added to a neutral atom to form a negative ion. It is a measure of how strongly an atom can attract and hold an additional electron.

Fluorine (F) and chlorine (Cl) are both halogens, and they are located in the same group (Group 17) of the periodic table. Halogens have high electron affinities because they only need one more electron to achieve a stable electron configuration.

Fluorine has the highest electron affinity of all the elements because it is the smallest halogen. The small atomic radius of fluorine allows it to have a stronger attraction for an extra electron compared to chlorine. Therefore, Statement A is true.

Statement B : Carbon monoxide is an acidic oxide.

An oxide is a compound that contains oxygen and another element. Some oxides can react with water to form acids, and these oxides are called acidic oxides. In contrast, basic oxides react with water to form bases.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas that is formed when carbon is burned in a limited supply of oxygen. It is not classified as an acidic oxide because it does not react with water to form an acid. Instead, carbon monoxide is a neutral oxide because it does not show acidic or basic properties. Therefore, Statement B is false.

Conclusion:

Based on the explanation above, we can conclude that Statement A is true and Statement B is false. Therefore, the correct answer is option 'c) Statement A is true, B is false'.
