  • S scored more marks than only T.

  • R scored less than P.

  • Only one person scored more than Q.

  • The one who scored second highest marks scored 87 marks.

  • S scored 23 marks less than the marks scored by Q.



To find: Possible values of R's score.

Solution:

  • As per the given information, the one who scored the second-highest marks scored 87 marks.

  • Therefore, the person who scored the highest marks scored more than 87 marks.

  • Also, only one person scored more than Q.

  • Therefore, Q scored 87 marks, and the person who scored the highest marks scored more than 87 marks.

  • Now, S scored 23 marks less than Q.

  • Therefore, S scored 64 marks.

  • Also, S scored more than only T. Therefore, T scored less than 64 marks.

  • Now, R scored less than P. Therefore, R's score should be less than P's score.

  • As Q scored 87 marks, P should have scored more than 87 marks.

  • Therefore, R's score should be less than 87 marks.

  • Hence, the possible value of R's score is 78 (option D).
