Problem: A train when it increases its speed by 10 km/h, reaches the destination 1 hour earlier than the given time. If further increases the speed by 10 km/h again, the time is reduced by 45 minutes. Find the distance covered by the train?

Solution:
Let's assume the initial speed of the train as 'x' km/h and the distance to be covered as 'd' km.

When the train increases its speed by 10 km/h, the time taken to cover the distance is reduced by 1 hour. Therefore,

d/x - d/(x+10) = 1

When the train further increases its speed by 10 km/h, the time taken to cover the distance is reduced by 45 minutes. Therefore,

d/(x+10) - d/(x+20) = 3/4

Solving the above two equations, we get:

x = 60 km/h
d = 420 km

Therefore, the distance covered by the train is 420 km.

Answer: (c) 420 km.
