Formation of States Reorganisation Commission

The States Reorganisation Commission (SRC) was formed in 1953 under the government of India. It was a result of the demand for the reorganisation of states on the basis of language. The SRC was set up to examine the various demands and to recommend the reorganisation of states on linguistic basis.

Reasons for the Formation of SRC

The demand for the formation of SRC came into existence due to the following reasons:

1. Linguistic Differences: India is a country with diverse cultures and languages. The different linguistic groups demanded the formation of states on the basis of their language and culture.

2. Administrative Convenience: The formation of states on the basis of language would lead to better administration as people speaking the same language would be better able to communicate with each other and understand each other's problems.

3. Historical Background: The formation of states on the basis of language had a historical background as well. It was believed that the British had created states based on administrative convenience which did not take into account the linguistic and cultural differences of the people.

4. Political Demands: The demand for the formation of states on the basis of language was also a political demand. The leaders of different linguistic groups wanted to gain political power by forming their own states.

The SRC submitted its report in 1955 which led to the formation of new states such as Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, etc. The SRC played a vital role in the reorganisation of states on the basis of language and culture which led to better administration and political empowerment of people.
