Concave Mirror and Image Distance

Concave Mirror: A concave mirror is a spherical mirror in which the reflecting surface is curved inwards, i.e., it is a mirror that bulges inwards.

Image Distance: The distance of the image from the mirror is called the image distance.

When the image is formed in front of the mirror:

- The image distance is negative.
- The image is virtual, erect, and magnified.
- The object distance is positive.

When the image is formed behind the mirror:

- The image distance is positive.
- The image is real, inverted, and diminished.
- The object distance is positive.

Hence, in case of concave mirror, the image distance is negative when the image is formed in front of the mirror and positive when the image is formed behind the mirror.
