  1. After the Battle of Buxar, the East India Company became the de facto masters of Bengal. Robert Clive introduced the dual system of government, ie the rule of two, the company and the Nawab of Bengal, in which both the civilians meant revenue collection and the Nizamat meant that the police and judicial functions came under the control of the company.
  2. The company acquired civil works from the Subhadar of Bengal through the works of the emperor and the Nizamat.
  3. The company exercised the rights of the Diwan and Nizamat as the authority of the Diwan and empowered the nominee to Deputy Suhendar.
  4. The dual system led to an administrative breakdown and proved disastrous for the people of Bengal. Neither the company nor the Nawab cared for public welfare. Warren Hastings did away with the dual system in 1772.
Hence, the correct option is (b).
