**Reported Speech Examples**

Reported speech, also known as indirect speech, is used to report what someone else has said. When we use reported speech, we usually change the tense of the verb, pronouns, adverbs of time and place, and other words as well. Here are some examples of reported speech:

**1. Direct speech:**
She said, "I am going to the mall."

**Reported speech:**
She said that she was going to the mall.

In this example, the verb "am" changes to "was" to reflect the past tense. The pronoun "I" changes to "she" to match the subject of the reported speech.

**2. Direct speech:**
He said, "I will call you later."

**Reported speech:**
He said that he would call me later.

In this example, the verb "will" changes to "would" to indicate future reported speech. The pronoun "you" changes to "me" to reflect the perspective of the person reporting the speech.

**3. Direct speech:**
They said, "We have completed the project."

**Reported speech:**
They said that they had completed the project.

Here, the verb "have" changes to "had" to represent past reported speech. The pronoun "we" changes to "they" to match the subject in the reported speech.

**4. Direct speech:**
She said, "I can speak French."

**Reported speech:**
She said that she could speak French.

In this example, the verb "can" changes to "could" to express reported speech in the past. No pronoun change is needed as the subject remains the same.

**5. Direct speech:**
He said, "I am not feeling well."

**Reported speech:**
He said that he was not feeling well.

Here, the verb "am" changes to "was" to demonstrate past tense reported speech. The pronoun "I" changes to "he" to match the subject in the reported speech.

**6. Direct speech:**
She said, "I saw him at the party."

**Reported speech:**
She said that she had seen him at the party.

In this example, the verb "saw" changes to "had seen" to indicate past tense reported speech.

**7. Direct speech:**
They said, "We will meet you tomorrow."

**Reported speech:**
They said that they would meet us the next day.

Here, the verb "will" changes to "would" to express future reported speech. The pronoun "you" changes to "us" to reflect the perspective of the person reporting the speech.

In reported speech, it is important to pay attention to verb tense changes, pronoun changes, and other modifications to accurately convey what someone else has said. By following the rules of reported speech, we can effectively communicate the words and intentions of others.
