Thomson proposed a model of the atom, in which electrons are embedded to make it as the stable electrostatic arrangement and such that positive charge is equally distributed around a sphere. Mass is assumed to be equally distributed. So. it has different names like plum pudding, watermelon and raisin pudding model.

Thomson Model of Atom

The Thomson Model of Atom was proposed by J.J. Thomson in 1904. It depicted an atom as a sphere of positive charge with electrons embedded within it. The electrons were compared to raisins in a pudding, hence the name "plum pudding model."

Models different from Thomson Model

  • Plum pudding model: This model, also known as the Thomson model, describes the atom as a sphere of positive charge with electrons scattered throughout, resembling raisins in a pudding.

  • Watermelon model: This model is not the same as the Thomson Model. The watermelon model visualizes the atom as a solid core (representing the nucleus) surrounded by a thick layer of electrons, similar to the structure of a watermelon.

  • Raisin pudding model: This is another name for the plum pudding model, which is the same as the Thomson Model of Atom.

  • Nuclear model: The nuclear model of the atom, proposed by Ernest Rutherford, suggests that the atom consists of a small, dense nucleus containing protons and neutrons, surrounded by orbiting electrons. This model differs significantly from the Thomson Model, as it focuses on the central nucleus rather than a uniform positive charge distribution.

Therefore, out of the given options, the nuclear model is not the same as the Thomson Model of Atom.
